If you just want to host a small, personal Web site you'll probably be fine with inexpensive Web hosting – some of it is even free.

However, if you need to be sure that your site stays up all the time and that your customers can get to it whenever they need to and want to, you'll probably need to pay more for hosting. Checking into the hosting company is a good choice.

Make sure that they have a customer service phone number and that it works and is connected with the company. Call it during peak hours. Call it in the middle of the night on a weekend. See if anyone answers and is knowledgeable. It might be a hassle, but it'll keep you from getting locked into some kind of Web hosting scam with bad service that you'll have a lot of trouble getting out of.
